BEAUTIFUL EMPTY: A Call For Filmmakers

July 20, 2009 – Denver, CO – This is an open call for filmmakers of all backgrounds, skill levels, and artistic points of view to participate in the BEAUTIFUL EMPTY Short Film Conspiracy – a collaboration of film and music hosted by Denver-based band John Common & Blinding Flashes of Light. Participating filmmakers will be given early, confidential access to the new record so they can choose a song, develop a concept, create their short film and then submit it to BEAUTIFUL EMPTY’s Festival Director. There will only be time for up to 6 short films the night of the event. However, all submissions will be screened and promoted at www.johncommon.com.

BACKGROUND
John Common & Blinding Flashes of Light are releasing a new record, entitled Beautiful Empty, later this year. Rather than treat its release in a traditional way, they have turned to visual artists, writers and now, filmmakers to collaborate in creating unique short works all inspired by the music on Beautiful Empty as a way to shine a light on the breadth and depth within Colorado’s various artistic communities. The goals of the event, also named Beautiful Empty, are simple: to collaborate and cross-pollinate the music, film, written word and visual art communities, and to throw a beautiful, memorable, one-of-a-kind happening.
