July 19, 2009 – Bellmore, Long Island – The student short film “The Drama Kids” is
the winner of “The Best Student Film Award” at the 12th Annual Long Island International Film Expo. (http://liifilmexpo.org/) The festival spanned 10 days
while screening over 165 films from all around the world, in all categories including student film, shorts, and features. Films were produced from Germany, Spain,
France, and Dubai.
The festival Director, Debra Markowitz said, “the interesting thing this year is that the student films were so professional they also competed in categories other than student.”
"Drama Kids was a beautiful, sweet, romantic fantasy. Extremely well done, Drama Kids did well both with the judges score and the audience ballots, and kept a lead
throughout...and Danny really had some tough competition", said Debra. “The Drama Kids” is a short film directed by Danny Diaz of Modest Moose
Productions. Arthur is a drama kid; the big high school play is tonight. Fall in love as they find if the hero inside you… isn’t only in your imagination. The film mixes together many genres, such as western, romance, action, and comedy, while also being shot on several formats, including HD, 16MM, and RED. “We wanted to do a film that showcased many talents and show people exactly what we were capable of doing”, said Danny Diaz, the film’s director, “so we wrote a story
and decided to cram as much as we could into it”.
The film was shot entirely in Colorado and featured such scenes as an intense car chase in downtown Denver, a western showdown at The Historic Western Hotel in Ouray, a romantic snow scene on the top of St. Mary’s Glacier, a medieval sword fight at Dunafon Castle in Idledale, and a look inside the secret world of highschoolers at Smoky Hill High School in Aurora.
This is the 3rd award for this film and it currently is an official selection of the 10th Annual KIDS FIRST! Film Festival. (http://www.kidsfirst.org/detail/209061.html)
Earlier in the year it won “Best Family Film” at The Vine Shorts Fest in Santa Monica,
CA. The Colorado Film School awarded Danny Diaz with “The Best Producer Award”
at the Fall 2008 Student Show.
