POPULAR FILM FESTIVAL RETURNS TO
CENTRAL NEW YORK
Slater Brothers Entertainment Returns With Annual Movie
Festival, August 5th-8th, To Support Local Filmmakers
Call For Entries Is Now Open
Los Angeles (April 20th, 2010) – Back by popular demand! Slater Brothers Entertainment’s Hamilton Film Festival, founded by brothers Wade, Grant and Todd Slater, whose father, Terry Slater, was the head hockey coach at Colgate University for 15 years, is returning for its second year, and is set to take place August 5 – 8, 2010. The Festival is now accepting film submission.
Through the Film Festival, the Slater brothers aim to bring a piece of Hollywood back to the area they proudly grew up in and provide a platform to recognize local area talent and advance the careers aspiring filmmakers. Supported by Colgate University and the village of Hamilton, this year’s festival will kick off with a VIP reception at Colgate University for film festival organizers, film directors and producers, and other special VIP invited guests on August 6th at 7pm. The first film will be screened at 8:30pm on Friday night following the opening reception. Events will continue throughout the weekend and include a festival closing night event to take place at Hamilton Central School on Saturday night, as well as a closing night party to happen in downtown Hamilton. Through the film festival and the Slater’s work last year, several directors were able to receive distribution deals and international sales deals for their films.
New this year is a special competition and screening for the best central and upstate New York short film selected for the festival. The addition of the ‘Upstate New York Filmmakers Screening’ is to encourage local filmmakers to get involved with the festival and community. The host venue for Festival screenings is the Hamilton Theater, located at 7 Lebanon Street in Hamilton, NY (www.hamiltontheater.net).
Charitable components associated with Slater Brothers Entertainment’s Hamilton Film Festival include a awareness walk to benefit the community Food Cupboard and a special screening at Hamilton Central School to benefit the school’s various educational and athletic departments.
Grant Slater’s announcement of the Central New York filmmakers award came with great excitement, “My brothers and I started this festival to give back to the area we grew up in. We couldn’t think of a better way to promote the festival and the arts of Central and Up State New York than by encouraging interested filmmakers to get involved. Our company is aimed at putting on special events with a charitable focus. We thought, why not include the best local filmmakers in our festival by having a special screening dedicated to them. We hope to find some ones that will really resonate with the area and people of Upstate New York.”
Todd Slater continued with his brother’s sentiments in saying “Part of what we hope to accomplish with our Film Festival is to promote the arts and culture of the area we grew up in. It is not easy having your talents or film recognized in general, let alone if you are a filmmaker from outside of either New York City or Los Angeles. Regardless of the age, subject matter, or the price of the short film, we wanted to encourage budding filmmakers to get involved with our festival. Through working with the directors whose film appeared at our festival last year, we were able to successfully find distribution and foreign sales deals for several of the films we reviewed. Finding distribution is usually the hardest thing for a film maker to accomplish, and we want to use our various contacts and experience to help facilitate this.”
Wade Slater added, “We wanted to bring a fun event back to the town we grew-up in. Hamilton is a special place. Hopefully we can bring some famous faces and some talented filmmakers back to Central New York for years to come. Anyone interested in entertainment and filmmaking should enjoy the experience and look to start putting his or her film submission together now. As long as the filmmaker can put his film on a DVD that plays in the movie theater, we expect to have some great films sent our way.”
The first submissions cutoff is June 1st, 2010. A late submission deadline will be extended to July 1, 2010 for certain circumstances. All submissions and processing fees should be sent to:
